With a pilot plant automatic sprinkler system (English “sprinklers”), most buildings will be protected against one of the most dangerous incidents: uncontrolled fires.
There are many ways to protect yourself against fire, but automatic sprinklers are one of the most advantageous fire fighting systems in many types of property; such as institutional buildings, hotels and places where the influx of public is constant.
Automatic sprinkler systems are systems activated by a high temperature concentration caused by a fire, in which the sprinkler is activated and discharges water at a certain pressure over the fire area.

Activation of automatic sprinklers
The fundamental factor for activating a sprinkler is the heat that the thermal element will endure before activating; This thermal element of the sprinkler is also known as the “bulb.”
The bulbs or thermal elements are of different colors that serve to identify the temperatures:
- Red bulb will work for temperature ranges around 68 ºC.
- Yellow bulb: it will be activated when fires occur that cause ambient temperatures of around 79 °C.
- Green bulb: green sprinkler bulbs are capable of firing at temperatures of 93 °C.
- Blue bulb: Sprinklers that integrate blue bulbs will be prepared to solve fires whose temperatures reach approximately 141 °C.
- Black bulb: this is the type of sprinkler whose alarm is triggered at the highest temperatures, in this case up to 260 °C.
Once activated, water discharge is carried out through an integrated network of pipes designed in accordance with fire protection engineering standards, to which automatic sprinklers are connected in a systematic pattern.
Automatic sprinkler systems are the most efficient method currently available to prevent the spread of fires, safeguarding human lives, property and assets. They are designed based on local and international regulations, thus complying with the protection of various risks.
A great advantage of automatic sprinkler extinguishing systems is that it will not be necessary for people to intervene to suffocate them.
Wet Sprinkler Systems
In these systems, automatic sprinklers are coupled to a network of pipes that contain, at all times, pressurized water. When one or more sprinklers are turned on, water flows immediately. It is the most used system, in approximately 75% of cases, because it acts the fastest and requires almost no maintenance. The only limitation on its implementation is in risks that may be subject to frost.
The sprinkler operates automatically when its thermal element heats up above its activation value due to the action of the heat of the fire itself, which destroys the thermal element, immediately allowing water to be discharged through said sprinkler (1). The discharge of water produces a depression in the network that causes the alarm valve (2) to be unlocked, the water flows and passes through the alarm circuit (3) to the delay chamber (4). From the delay chamber, the water reaches the hydromechanical alarm (5) and/or the optional pressure switch (6) which activates an electric alarm bell.
Due to their high effectiveness in controlling and suppressing fires automatically, these systems are found in most companies to protect their property and safeguard the lives of their employees.
Wet Sprinkler Systems are supplied with water through a pump and a screw-on tank to store the water (although it can also be a cistern) and are controlled by a special non-return valve that has a specific arrangement for handling, monitoring and system maintenance.
